Bari Weiss’ Resignation from the New York Times

Weiss’ states her coworkers wanted her rooted out of the New York Times if is to be a truly “inclusive” environment — which, of course, is illogical: to cast aside views other than your own — and to discredit those espousing them — in order to make way for tolerance and inclusivity. It’s a false tolerance and inclusivity, built on, uniformity, and a very narrow definition of what is accepted, and what can be said, and what opinions can be held. Weiss is a centrist liberal maligned as a Nazi and a racist — the absurdity of it lays bare the excesses of political dogmatism in America today.

It seems, inclusivity is a concept — well-intentioned as it may be — that can be distorted for anyone’s purposes. Somehow, compromise and disagreement seem to have been lost, to time and war; instead of rational discussion and debate, too many require total compliance, and too many corporations and organizations rush to comply. People are being punished for reasonable beliefs, under the cover of inclusivity and progress.

That’s something worth remedying. Regardless of your political disposition.
